Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the YogaRoots On Location 200-hour RYT Yoga Teacher Training for?

The YogaRoots On Location Raja Yoga Teacher Training is for every body regardless of age, size, shape, experience, and ability. Our training welcomes the lifelong practitioner and those who have never practiced. This virtual training is designed to be accessible for all, regardless of ability and previous yoga experience.

Do I need to become a yoga teacher and formally teach at the end of the training?

Not everyone goes on to teach Yoga, though some trainees have gone on to practice, teach, or even open Yoga studios. Some trainees have expanded into their physical practice, their social justice organizing, or their own self-study, self-care, community care, and liberation practices. The outcome is different for everyone, and we celebrate whatever path our training leads folks on without attachment or expectation.

Why is the training virtual? What are the pros and cons?

We moved our training from in-person to virtual in 2020 as a response to the pandemic. This was a major transition for us as our training is extremely relational. What we found was that the virtual training allows for greater access across abilities and locations.

It’s further rooted in our trauma-informed teaching as it lets folks digest deep and vulnerable information and offerings in a space that feels safe and comfortable. It also allows folks to show up exactly how and where they are, giving our students the experience of practicing as they learn in the spaces that make up the foundation of their lives. All of our materials convey well digitally and allow students the space to digest content in their own time. We do sometimes miss the energetic exchange of being in a physical space together, and other times we are grateful to each have our own space to process.

How does scholarship work?

We are committed to providing our liberation education to everybody that is open and ready to receive it. We believe this powerful training should be available to everyone regardless of financial status. Felicia’s anti-capitalistic Raja Yoga philosophy, practice, and teaching have led to an abundance model that makes scholarships available for anyone who needs them. Scholarship amounts are based on what you feel you need, as the foremost expert on your own financial resources.

We ask you to practice the Niyama of Self-Study and Yama of Honesty to determine the amount of scholarship you need and share that number with us. We in turn will trust and honor that number. Folks who receive scholarships do not have to fill out any additional forms, answer any additional questions, or provide any additional documentation. Our agreement with you as a scholarship recipient is that you will commit to and complete the training as best as you are able.

What materials or equipment do I need to take the training?

You will need a web-based device with a camera and microphone, such as a computer or tablet (we don’t recommend doing the training solely on your phone), reliable internet, a Zoom account, a Google account, an Adobe PDF reader, a place to do yoga that is most comfortable for your body (mat, blanket, chair, couch, etc), any props that you'd like.

I’m not able to do the whole training. Are there other ways to be in Relationship and start or continue my education and liberation work with YogaRoots On Location?

Relationships and shared resources are foundational aspects of Collective Liberation! Other ways to access the YogaRoots on Location community and teachings are Patreon, Instagram, Facebook, our newsletter, professional development, or a direct inquiry. Through Patreon membership, you gain access to a robust archive of videos and podcasts as well as other opportunities to connect.

What are the additional costs aside from the tuition?

In order to receive your certificate of completion you must complete:

  • CPR/AED Child and Adult Certification ($30)

  • Child Abuse History Clearance ($13)

  • State Criminal Record Check ($22)

  • FBI Fingerprinting Federal Criminal History Record: (DHS code 1KG756) ($25)

The cost of receiving your RYT 200 certification from Yoga Alliance is currently $115.

Will I still pay the additional costs even if I decide not to pursue the full certification with Yoga Alliance?

No, if you decide not to pursue your certificate with Yoga Alliance, you can forego the above certifications and clearances and avoid these additional costs.

What do teaching and observation requirements look like in the COVID era?

We invite you to observe and teach in the way that feels safest for you. This could be in person (indoors or outside) or online. You are welcome to watch class recordings for your observation hours. Teaching requires you to teach at least 1 other person as the lead instructor. This can be a public or private session, planned or impromptu.

What does daily practice look like in between training weekends?

It looks like integrating your learning into your daily life, doing the homework assignments, and co-working with peers from your training flight.
